Nail Surgery

What is Nail Surgery?

Nail surgery is a common and effective treatment for problematic nails, performed under local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort.

There are two main types of nail surgery:

1. Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA): This involves the removal of just the affected side(s) of the nail and is often used for ingrown or involuted nails.

2. Total Nail Avulsion (TNA): This procedure involves the complete removal of the nail, usually due to severe fungal infections or extensively damaged nails.

Our podiatrist will assess your condition and recommend the best surgical option for you.

What to Expect During and After the Treatment

You'll receive a local anaesthetic to numb the area, making the surgery virtually painless. After the procedure, your foot will be dressed to promote optimal healing.

We will schedule a follow-up appointment for the very next day to remove the dressings and check on your progress. You will be taught how to change your dressing daily at home, and additional follow-up appointments will be arranged to ensure your nail is healing properly and to address any concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

💡 How painful is it?

You may experience mild discomfort from the local anaesthetic, but your toe will feel numb afterwards. While the anaesthetic eliminates pain sensation, you may still feel some pressure during the procedure. We will check in with you regularly to ensure you are comfortable.

💡 Will it be sore after the procedure?

Generally, there is very little discomfort on the night of the operation or during the healing period. Any pain experienced is usually easily managed with paracetamol.
